If you are like me…

If you are like me you tell yourself the little details are not what is most important.

If you are like me you would rather coordinate off the cuff.

If you are like me you convince yourself it will all just end up coming together perfectly.

If you are like me, there is also this crazy girl voice whispering to you in the back of your head. She tells you that the details will definitely set the tone for your whole wedding, that there is no way to be spontaneous for a wedding; it must be planned, and that there is no way in hell it will all come together unless you pine away over every little detail.

It’s ok. Weddings bring out the crazy in the best of us. Try to stay grounded. Eat healthy, practice yoga, go for walks to clear your mind or make a fire in your backyard and drink beer with your fiance to celebrate finishing your save the dates.

Whatever you do, try not to let the crazy consume you.

Megan, Morgan & Jimi

I haven’t shot many family portrait sessions, but I always feel like they should be an organic representation of a family. Just as shooting a wedding, I like to document a day in a family’s life – to tell a story. Sometimes families want to go on an hour hike on trails close to their home which happens to be one of the most beautiful little cities in Southern California.

I’m down.

Megan, Morgan and Jimi took me on one of the most amazing hikes through trails in Newbury Park. They brought their best friends and music and we went on an adventure together. I know one day Jimi is going to grow up to be an adventurer just like his Mom and Dad.

This is their family.

Rochelle - I love them!!! As with all of you photography you make me feel like I am right there with you getting to know these people!!! I think the last picture is my favorite!!!

This year.

I am a photographer. I am an observer. I live to create. I love to tell stories; I was an English Lit major in college.

This year I want to immerse myself in my art and push my photography career more than ever. This year I am getting married to my love and planning one of the most exciting days of our lives. This year we are finally re-establishing our home after moving across the country. This year we are focusing on our health and finding balance in what we eat and how we exercise.

This year is going to be huge. I want to try to document it more than I have before. These are the discussions I have with Jamie. We talk about our plans and our dreams and sometimes we take Dudley along for the meeting of the minds.

I am excited for our future together.

Tara & Chris | Married | Ritz Carlton Beach Club. Saraosta, Florida

When a heart finds another, what’s a cloud more or less in the sky?

Last weekend we flirted with rain off and on all day during Tara and Chris’ wedding at the Ritz in Sarasota, Florida. But in true South Florida style, the clouds parted right before the ceremony and left us with a beautifully saturated sunset after.

Thank you so much Tara and Chris for letting me be a part of your day, I wish you two all the happiness in the world.

Anna from Day Planners pulled together a spectacular event as usual, and as always Roger from The Naked Florist created the most breathtaking arrangements.

Lindsey & Shaun | Engaged | Point Dume Beach, California

Sometimes you get an email from a client and you just know:

I’m an RN and he’s a retired professional surfer. We’ve been together for 7 years….7 awesome years might I add.  We’re getting married in September… Staying true to our roots, the ceremony will be overlooking the ocean- my dream since  I was a child. I saw your site and really loved your story and outlook on photography. I’d love to chat when you have a moment and if you’re local it would be great to sit down and look through your portfolio if possible.

When I drove out to Santa Monica to chat with Lindsey, I knew that I would have a blast shooting this engagement session. Lindsey and Shaun have the kind of energy that just radiates. It’s that contagious, can’t stop smiling and laughing type of energy….
